What is this My Moment Of Lovely I hear you ask? Well, my inquisitive little readers, I have realised more and more over the past few months that I’ve become much more attuned to the lovely things around me. Mostly little things, but also some big things in life that I’m really grateful for. And this is a good thing. A great thing, in fact! Because I believe it helps keep me grounded and reminds me that things might not all be entirely made of shit actually, even though sometimes it feels like they are.
And I’m fairly certain it’s not just me. I think society as a whole isn’t paying enough attention to these lovely, everyday things and sometimes we can get a little bit cranky pants because of that. So I think we need to reorient ourselves so we can search for, stumble upon, and appreciate these moments. They might be big, they might be small. It could be getting a promotion or a new car or it might be noticing the pretty pattern the light makes when it streams through your curtains or baking some delicious biscuits. Whatever it is, I think it’s important to at least acknowledge its existence, don’t you?
So, to encourage myself to do this more and to maybe inspire other people to do the same, I thought I would start a little hashtag (whoop whoop!). #mymomentoflovely is what I’ll be using on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to get this thing going. I was thinking of also collating a bunch of photos into a blog post from time to time to show you all what lovely things I’ve noticed – starting today. And you can join in too! I would LOVE that.
You might want to jot down a list of the things that are making you smile, or feel grateful, or giving you the warm fuzzy feels. You could take a photo of that list or you could take a photo of the actual things themselves that you think are lovely. You might want to participate but not show everyone your photos (or lists) and that’s fine too! Just find what works best for you. You don’t have to be amazing at photography – that’s not the focus of this. It’s about doing something fun and enjoyable! If you happen to want to improve your photography skillz or just take more photos, then this might be one way to achieve those goals. The main thing is you look around and try to find something lovely.
Here are some of my recent photos, showing my moments of lovely.
I want to see, think, and feel more lovely. Won’t you join me?
