FMS Photo A Day

I decided to do Fat Mum Slim’s Photo A Day challenge through the month of November and boy, was it fun! If you don’t know what I’m banging on about, this photo challenge provides you with a prompt for every day of the month – it could be one word or the start of a sentence – and the idea is for you to take a photo that represents or answers or was inspired by the prompt. Simple concept, lots of fun. And it is challenging at times!

I took the majority of the photos on the day. There were only a few times were I made time to take some in advance and plan ahead. Clever people would probably do this for the lot of them. It was a little stressful at times because I would look at the prompt for the day and not have any flash of inspiration until I sat down to do some work at uni or while I was on the toilet. Having said that, I have actually really enjoyed the challenge of taking the photos right then and there and trying to come up with something I liked enough to share. Given inspiration is something I sometimes wrestle with, it was interesting to almost force myself to be creative and find inspiration in everyday things that I did or saw.

These ones below are my favourites that I took throughout the month. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way they all turned out. You can check out all 30 of the photos I took over at my Instagram or via my Facebook page.

From L to R: “Heck yes!”, “After”, “Can’t live without”, “I need to do this!”, “Something blue”, “Cooking”, “For me”, “A set”, and “Shoes”.

I’m thinking about taking on the challenge for December but I’m a tad worried I won’t be able to keep up with it – next month is a pretty busy one! I’m still uming and ahing but I can feel myself leaning towards giving it a go. If you’re thinking about taking part, I really would recommend it! Even if you’re a beginner photographer. I’m no professional – I would still classify myself as a beginner – and I learned so much about what my camera can do and also some very unlikely places you can get inspiration from. You don’t even have to post every day’s photo if you’re feeling shy. You could even keep the photos to yourself if you want and just play along at home but either way – just get out there and do it!

Happy snapping, people!

Have you done a photo challenge before? Are you thinking of taking part in one?

Love this challenge! Your photos are great.
Little Moments app keeps me on track and I've done Sept, Oct & Nov without missing a day!

Yay! Lovely photos! I have been doing this challenge for a few years now and sometimes it is a pain, but usually it is worth it to get a month snapshot of daily life, then all the months build up and you have a year! I am very strict on myself and the photo has to be taken on the day, so sometimes I get a little desperate to match the prompt (nothing a little artistic license can't help I always find!) Well worth it, I am planning to post all of the Dec prompts in black and white….we shall see how that goes.

I have been doing this for November too. Just using my smartphone and the prompt each day. I didn't plan ahead and just caught things in the moment, like journalling I guess.

Thanks Annette! I like the sound of the app if it helps to keep you on track but I don't think it comes in an Android version, does it? Ah well, my memory can do with a test every now and then! xx

Oh that must be so lovely to have enough photos saved up to be able to look back over a whole year. Maybe I'll get to that point one day! I agree – even though it can be frustrating and a bit stressful to take the photos on the day, I actually ended up with some of my favourite photos that way. Doing December in black and white sounds like a great plan! Thanks for the comment, Clare! xx

It is quite like keeping a journal, isn't it? That's a great way to see it. I think I might have to plan some of my photos at least loosely in my mind for next month – things might get too hectic otherwise! Thanks so much for the comment Sharon! xx
