Etsy Update : Button Earrings, My First Market, and Business Cards

I don’t talk much about my Etsy shop here on the birdandfox blog and I’m not sure why. I’d like to change that. So, I’m kicking the new trend off by talking about a few of the latest things that have happened in my little Etsy world. Whoop whoop!

Firstly, I’ve got some new button earrings in the shop and I love them all!

I find that when I’m making things for the Etsy shop, particularly these earrings, their own little personalities come out. That might sound a little lame but I really like it! I look at the pair of earrings in my hands and I can see the places they might be worn, or the kind of person who might wear them. It dawned on me one crafty night that maybe I should share those thoughts on each pair with my customers. So I decided to write a little intro to each set of earrings and give them each a name that helps to capture the vibe I get from them. I really do love them all but I think Poppy, Zoe, and Rebecca are my absolute favourites!

Secondly, I took my Etsy items to my very first market earlier this month! I had figured that it was high time for me to dip my feet into putting my brand out there a bit more and applied for a stall at the lovely Round She Goes market. I’ve actually written a post about the market before, which you can check out here. It’s one of my all-time favourites so I was pretty chuffed to be going there as a stall-holder!

Having said that, the lead up to market day was pretty damn stressful. I was a lot less organised than I would have liked and, in the end, I had to lower my standards and expectations for myself. I had wanted to achieve so much (too much, I think) and it just wasn’t reasonable within the time frame that I had. Once I decided to let go of certain things, the tension just melted away. (Now, if only I could apply this to other areas of my life…damn you, perfectionism!)

The actual market day itself was a lot of fun! We had some lovely conversations with some very friendly customers and the other stall-holders were also great to chat to. Though I think the most amusing part of the day occurred within an hour of the market opening. A lady approached my rack of clothing, picked up a skirt, and the rack promptly fell to the ground in pieces! It was a bit of a mad scramble but luckily my friend Amy and my mum were there (yay!) to help me pick up all the clothing and figure out a way to display them. Not ideal but it was more amusing than anything. I guess my clothes were just too heavy for the rack!

I would love to go back again, and I plan to in the future, but I think my next market might be a handmade local market. I’m still a little tired from this one though so it might be a good few months off!

And lastly, I’ve got new business cards! Yes indeedy-do!

Aren’t they gorgeous? I love them so much. I researched a whole bunch of different companies before picking Print Together. I wanted a company that was Australian, fairly local, used recycled paper and soy/vegetable inks, and was decently priced. Print Together ticked all those boxes! I put the order in on the Monday and they were ready to be picked up on the Thursday. I’m just so pleased with them and the people of Instagram seem to agree!

So, what now for the Etsy shop? Well, I’m re-working some of the photography for the item listings and I’m also in the midst of trying to pin down a set number of designs for each item type (necklaces, earring, etc.) so the making process is a tad more streamlined for me. You’ll see regular updates from me via Instagram and Facebook, don’t worry!

What have you been up to lately? How are you? Well, I hope!

Gorgeous, Jacquie. Gorgeous photos, gorgeous earrings, gorgeous market stall, and gorgeous business cards. I can't believe you do all this AND do a PhD! You're amazing x

  2. birdandfox

Aw shucks! Thanks Isabel! It is a bit hectic but I enjoy it all a lot and I think the Etsy shop is what is helping to keep me sane during my thesis and teaching. Thanks for commenting and your lovely words ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  3. Robyna

Everything is SO pretty and that embroidered skirt! Did you sell it to someone amazing? So sweet!

  4. Rebecca Johnstone

I love the earrings that have my name!! And the description is pretty accurate too! Great business cards xx

  5. birdandfox

    Yay! Thanks so much, Robyna!

I actually didn't sell the skirt. I have quite a few items still left over – I'm hoping to sell them on the Round She Goes online market soon!

Thanks so much for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. birdandfox

Haha that's awesome, Rebecca! I'm glad you like the earrings and the business cards – I'm so happy with how they both turned out ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for stopping past and commenting!

Gorgeous earrings and business cards! Markets can be so exhausting can't they? All that organising. Hope you had a fun day though x

  8. birdandfox

    Thanks so much, Karen!

YES. Markets are definitely exhausting. I figured it would be a lot of work but didn't realise it would be quite that exhausting! It was most certainly worth it though – I didn't sell a whole lot but I was more interested in putting myself out there and talking to people.

    Thanks for commenting! x

  9. Laura

Hello! Cute earring descriptions! I think they're all quite apt. The photo of you at the market is gorgeous. That's hilarious that your rack collapsed. All that preparation and something still, literally, falls apart. I'm glad it was amusing and not day-ruiny. Love the birdandfox update!

Hey Laura! Haha yes, it was pretty amusing. The poor woman just sort of backed away awkwardly and said she'd come back later – she didn't ๐Ÿ˜› Ah well, I'll know to be careful for next time and not overload the slightly ageing cheap clothes rack.

I'm glad you like the earring descriptions and the birdandfox update – yay!

Thanks for having a read and leaving a comment ๐Ÿ™‚
